vaguely fascist physical education teacher? Come now. Oscar wants to do weight training and become strong. The teacher helps him. Oskar obviously likes this teacher. I think you don't like physical education teachers. which is certainly your right but vaguely fascist. I think he is by far the most likeable adult in the film and the most intyelligent.

I never watch a movie twice, but I watched this film last night, and I just watched it again tonight. Your review nails it exactly and eloquently. I love this film, and will be doing some screen captures for my wallpaper. Maybe even make a T-shirt or two for myself.

Lina is amazing, and I hope to see her in more films. She has such incredible control over subtle changes in her expressions. She tells a story with a look. Her eyes are awesome. I love her.

I am very critical of movies, and usually find logical and technical errors. I could find none in this film. Hats off to the maker of the movie. They did a perfect job. I cannot imagine anyone wasting their time trying to do a remake. There's no way to make this story better.

I stumbled on to this review by accident and very happy I did. I had the privilege of watching this remarkable film and really couldn't agree with you more especially about Lina Leandersson's role in the make up of this film. It was as if they happened upon child vampire and hired her on the spot and said just be yourself. I didn't think I'd see another actor top Kirsten Dunst's Claudia but Lina created a real character that I feel will not be duplicated. To think she was only eleven when this was filmed is stupefying. Kåre Hedebrant's Oskar was the perfect combination of youthful naivety and haggard weariness caused by negligence and abuse. His characters use of passive behavior in the beginning allows us to track his growing maturity as the film progresses along and yet he never loses his youthful wonderment which is crucial to his character. It was an award winning character study to say the least. This film stayed with me long after it ended and if that isn't the true measure of a film then I don't know what is.

What an excellent review. I really appreciate how thorough you were and the amount of detail you included. You not only described the film and characters but also the mood. It's unlikely that I will ever see this film and I'm inclined to think as you and your previous commentator do that any remake will be a travesty. Thus, I appreciate your review even more than I would if I could attend a theater and view it.

Lovely, well written review.

I must say they ARE remaking this and I dread the outcome.
